WASHINGTON — Meta, the social media giant that owns Facebook and Instagram, has donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund as the company seeks to mend fences against a second administration that could oversee major social media regulations.
The donation, first reported by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday and confirmed by USA TODAY, is the latest move by Met CEO Mark Zuckerberg to indicate he would like to work closely with Trump.
Zuckerberg has spent the past few months trying to mend his relationship with Trump and other Republican leaders after taking a hit in 2021 over the former president’s ban on Meta platforms following the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol.
